Men's Denim Fit Guide

There's nothing like a nice fitted pair of denim on a man. Women- trying to get your man into a nice designer pair of jeans? Men- looking for a current pair of slim fit denim? Allow me to help you slip into the right fitting denim. I've worked with men's denim for 4+ years and fit is the most important factor.

*TIP: Apparently your waist is double the width of your neck. So, if you are at a department store simply take the denim and wrap it around your neck. If it fits perfectly around the neck it should be the right waist size.

1. Buy it snug. First off, a lot of men (and women) purchase their denim a little loose rather than a little snug. In my opinion this is the biggest mistake from the get-go. Haven't you noticed after a while the expensive denim looks a little baggy? Always buy your denim a little snug because they stretch after wearing them numerous times. After they stretch they are not a nice tailored fit anymore, which leads to feeling like you need a new nice pair.

2. Body type. Figure out what body type you have. Determine if you have a narrow build, athletic build, heavier set build, etc.

3. Preference. Figure out your preference. If you're still into bootcut and relaxed fit, those styles are not very current and you would most likely look better in a tailored fit. Even if you are heavier set and or have thicker legs you would probably look better in a tailored fit. Remember most denim stretches even if it feels as though they are tight at first. My current personal preference for a man is anywhere from tailored straight leg to a skinny fit. Also I have found that a lot of men carry weight in their stomach with legs that are much thinner. For example, a man who wears a size 36 straight leg, the denim is baggy and relaxed because he has thin legs. So, if he tries a size 36 tailored or skinny he still has room and it appears to be more of a tailored fit. I hope that makes sense.

4. Current Denim. My favorite designer denim at the moment for men are Rag & Bone, Citizen of Humanity, Adriano Goldschmied, and Fidelity. Most of them are made in the U.S. if that helps justify their cost. Most of the tailored, slim, and skinny fits from these brands are great. Here are a just a few (from skinny to tailored) that look and feel great.

Fidelity denim offers a nice tailored fit called the Jimmy.

I hope this was helpful! At first the skinny and slim fits might seem uncomfortable but I promise you will get used to the look and thank me later. :)

Health & Happiness,

-E.A.
